Sunshine Blogger Award!

sunshine-award1

Thanks to the sweet and very charming “Mochi” of Matchimochimoo for nominating me for the Sunshine Award!  Her blog is awesome so I am deeply honored that she chose me!  🙂

The rules for Sunshine Award are:

1   Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
2   Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back.
3   Answer the same 10 questions given.
4   Nominate up to 10 blogs for the award, a link to their blogs in your post, and notify them on their blogs.
5   Copy and paste the award on your blog somewhere.

Response to the 10 questions:

1.  Where would you most like to travel to?

Wow, I am trying to figure that out to take a trip sometime within the next three months!  I’d like to go to Europe but a visit during the summer months would probably be best.  True fact:  Every time I take a trip, it snows.  Las Vegas:  snow.  Grand Canyon:  snow.  Niagara Falls:  snow (although, that was really beautiful, with the water frozen over, the colored lights, and not many tourists!)  Canada:  Snow.  New York City right before Halloween:  a surprise freak snowstorm.

2.  Do you have a sweet tooth?

Not really, except for peanut butter!  (I effing love peanut butter.)  I’d much rather have something savory – like a second helping of the main course than dessert!  This could be because I suffered from low blood sugar when I was younger.  Sweet foods cause my blood sugar to fluctuate and do not make me feel good!

3.  What motivates you to keep you blogging?

Many things!  While writing to educate others, I actually found I was educating myself just as much, if not more!  I continually learn as I write and blogging encourages me to keep trying new recipes and avoid cooking ruts.  I’ve also learned so much from other blogs – there’s so much out there, and everyone has something unique to share.  I’ve made so many blogging friends.  And finally, some of the feedback I get that makes me feel I’m making some small, positive difference in the world.

4.  Who is your favorite comedian?

Ellen DeGeneres.  She’s hysterical, kind, and a vegan.

Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else’s expense. And I find that that’s just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else’s feelings.

And:

I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it’s such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.

5.  What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Walking my dog, Scruffy.

6.  Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Ninth grade, Ms. Mary Wright.  She really encouraged my writing and gave me confidence.  She also introduced me to Charles Dickens.  (Well, not Charles Dickens personally – he would have been a little dusty and decayed by then.)  But to his works, including my most favorite book of all time, Great Expectations.  We were supposed to read the book in class only, but every day I slipped a copy into my bookbag so I could continue reading it at home.   I thought I was being so sneaky and clever because Ms. Wright never called me on it.  Later, of course, I realized she must have known exactly what I was doing and was thrilled that one of her students was actually smuggling a Charles Dickens book home to read.

7.  Do you own any pets?

Baby Maggie Firsee

Baby Maggie Firsee. So named by my friend’s daughter because she was the first one of her litter to open her eyes and “first see.”

Lots of furry things in my life.  One Jack Russell terrier mix, Scruffy.  One enormous ginger tabby, Prince Harry.  One silver tabby Tiger.  One calico, Baby Maggie Firsee.  One bearded man.

Prince Harry Pumpkin and Tigger Tiger. Both rescues.

Furry Things

Two more furry things in my life! One of them is a rescue. Although, probably both of them would say they rescued me.

8.  Most embarrassing moment in your life? ( That you are willing to share.)

I’m really not sure!  I don’t get embarrassed easily.  If I think of something amusing I’ll update this post!

9.  Where are you from?

Charlotte, NC.  My ancestors are from Ireland.

10. How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

I have no idea. How much sump would a sump pump pump if a sump pump could pump sump?  And just how many sea shells does she sell down by the sea shore?  And as far as that guy Peter goes … how the heck is he picking pecks of pickled peppers?  Aren’t peppers pickled after they are picked?
