Yesterday, my work team decided to treat our boss to lunch for her birthday. The chosen location was Burger 21, a fast casual a.k.a. “counter service” restaurant in Ballantyne. As you’d expect from the name, the joint specializes in burgers. Mostly beef burgers, but also chicken burgers, turkey burgers, tuna burgers, and shrimp burgers. They… Read More ›
In a previous post, I wrote a detailed review of the Impossible Burger and one of the few places to find it in Charlotte, NC – Duckworth’s. My review of the Impossible Burger was mostly positive. (Yes, I am aware an ingredient in the burger was tested on animals, but most new ingredients are. I… Read More ›
For the past six months or so, seems like all the vegan buzz has been about The Impossible Burger. It’s the “burger that bleeds!” It’s the burger that has the appearance, texture, and taste of “real beef“! It’s better than the Beyond Burger! Or – no, it’s not??? It’s dietarily vegan – unless, of course, it’s… Read More ›

On the Saturday of our visit to Walt Disney World, we spent a very enjoyable morning at Hollywood Studios, riding and re-riding The Tower of Terror and the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster. Eventually, we had to eat lunch. The ABC Commissary was another place we stumbled upon, since we didn’t have reservations and didn’t… Read More ›
Most of our Disney trip, Jules and I were winging it as far as restaurants went. (In other words, we hadn’t made restaurant reservations in advance and alerted the management I was a pain-in-the-*ss vegan who would require a special meal and possibly a visit to my table by the chef.) Anyhoo, we were in… Read More ›
Disney is a bit overly fond of using the word “magical.” But in the case of Be Our Guest, the word magical truly applies. Be Our Guest is one of Walt Disney World’s most popular restaurants (second only to breakfast at Cinderella’s Castle). The wait list is legendary – you need to book your reservation… Read More ›
Is Walt Disney World vegan friendly? The answer, as I found out on my recent visit to Walt Disney World – Orlando, FL, is … It’s complicated. There is certainly vegan food to eat, but your choices are limited. However, that’s not as bad as it sounds, because EVERYONE’S choices are somewhat limited. To deal… Read More ›
I was excited to try Conscious Cravings in Austin, TX. It’s always fun to try vegan eateries on the road, experience the different concepts and cooking styles, taste the local flavors, find inspiration. Yelp was full of positive, glowing reviews – although admittedly Yelp is notorious for deleting any reviews that are less than positive…. Read More ›
San Antonio, TX is a city of surprises – from the disappointing (the Alamo is a gigantic souvenir shop!) – to the sublime, such as gorgeous old churches and the lush green beauty of the flowering shrubs, waterfalls, and koi ponds of the Japanese Tea Garden. Senor Veggie, an all-vegan restaurant located at 620 S. Presa Street, definitely falls into the sublime category. It is without a doubt one of the very best veg restaurants I’ve ever been to, and quite possibly has the world’s best veggie burger.
Zoe’s Kitchen is another rapidly expanding fast-casual restaurant that takes its vegan customers seriously. Drawing on culinary influences from the 21-country Mediterranean region, Zoe’s offer vegans flavorful new options.
Which Wich is a rapidly expanding, veg-friendly chain that is adding new vegan items to their menu this fall. Charlotte, NC is one of their four test markets! VegCharlotte has tried and tasted these new items – including a vegan chicken sandwich – and has the inside scoop. Let’s just say, we’ll never eat at Subway again.
In Charlotte, NC it’s becoming possible to find good vegan food just about anywhere – including hypnotist shows at The Comedy Zone. Here’s what a vegan needs to know.
