“Tis the Pumpkin Spice Season …”
Another review to help you get your pumpkin spice groove on!
Usually, I have a green smoothie for breakfast, and snack on fruit during the day. But I admit for years I kept a box of granola bars or cereal bars stashed at my desk at work. If I skipped breakfast, or worked through lunch, or wanted a snack – well, at least I had something slightly healthier than a candy bar from the vending machine!
Then came the vegan years, when I noticed almost all cereal bars (and a surprising number of granola bars) contain milk. And a majority of granola bars have honey!
I’m not sure why I even picked up a box of Nature’s Valley Crunch Granola Bars Pumpkin Spice and checked the ingredients.
No honey!
No milk!
The “may contain” disclaimer specified only peanuts, walnuts, and almonds, not milk.
I threw a box into my cart!
There are 12 total bars, which come two to a package. One serving is one package (two bars).
These were FANTASTIC! Pumpkin spice (cinnamon, ginger) pairs very well with oats and oatmeal, and that’s basically what these are – a healthier version of an oatmeal cookie. They weren’t too sweet and they were nice and crunchy (nothing worse than soft, stale granola).
Here’s the nutritional information:
Yup, nothing to write home about. (I think we always believe granola is healthier than it actually is.) You do get 16g of whole grains per serving and a bit of iron.
Think of these as a yummy, healthier “cookie” – not a health food! They pair very well with a cup of coffee or a cup of hot tea. An occasional treat, not a daily breakfast.
Any pumpkin spice fan who also likes oatmeal or oatmeal cookies will love these!
