Happy National Pet Day!
Honor your pet and be the person your dog (or cat, or bunny, or hamster, or lizard, or …) thinks you are!
And is there anything cozier than a cup of hot tea and a good book?
Some of my favorite books featuring dogs:
- On God and Dogs – A Christian Theology of Compassion for Animals – Stephen H. Webb. An easy introduction to animal theology. It’s worth a read, even if you aren’t religious.
- The Art of Racing In The Rain – Garth Stein. On a scale of 1-5, this book is a 10. Enzo the dog reminisces about his life, which is as much about his humans as it is Enzo. Keep a BIG box of tissues nearby.
- The Dogs of Babel – Carolyn Parkhurst. Paul’s wife dies mysteriously and only Lorelei the dog witnessed her death. If only the dog could talk. Fortunately, Paul is a linguist – but then Lorelei is dognapped. Both a mystery and beautifully sad book about depression. Sometimes love is not enough.
- Fairy Tale – Stephen King. Once upon a time, there was a dog named Radar. She is the reason I kept turning the pages. All 598 of them.
- Lessons in Chemistry – Bonnie Garmus. (Not pictured) In this hysterical book, it’s the early 1960s and Elizabeth Zott – plus many other women – are fighting for equality. The entire book is amazing, but my favorite character was Six Thirty.
If you know a great book about dogs I haven’t mentioned, please leave it in the comments!
