Yesterday, I placed a small order of vegan staples through Amazon Fresh grocery delivery.

Imagine my surprise when I received two different kinds of chicken tikka masala, a package of frozen Snickers ice cream bars, two boxes of dairy popsicles, and multiple boxes of frozen pastry desserts – like mini pies – all with milk and eggs!

But I bet I wasn’t half as surprised as the chicken-tikka-masala loving person with a sweet tooth who received a tub of firm tofu, a tub of extra firm tofu, two packages of tempeh, nutritional yeast, Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer, and a package of hairy kiwis!

What The Omnivore Received

Amazon quickly refunded my money, but I have to wonder what their other customer thought about such unexpected vegan bounty! I know some more optimistic vegans would probably spin it as “They tried the tofu and now they are lifelong vegans!” but I’m thinking it went something like this:

Surprised Omni: “Where are my frozen Snickers bars?”

opens bag

“…tofu.”

opens another bag

“MORE TOFU.”

“What the hell is tempeh?”

“And why is there a box of furry fruit?”

  1. LOL. I may eat both orders but would definitely prefer your intended one.

  2. I had a similar experience where I ordered vegan food from Door Dash & received a Wendy’s burger, chili cheese fries & a Coke. I always wondered what the person that got my vegan dinner thought.

    1. Oh, no! And of course it had to be a burger and CHILI CHEESE fries – not a burger and just plain fries, which you could eat. When these mixups happen, it never seems to be with “neutral” food where you could shrug and say, “Oh, well, I can at least eat these fries” or “Oh, well, at least I can use this box of cereal and this bag of apples.”
